Since I do not know of any people who are in the speech pathology field and have not taken any of my Major classes yet, I spoke to my advisor, Ms. Kendall Tope. She looks very young and she is a graduate student. Over one million students in special education have communication disorders. Speech-language pathologists work with these students to develop and improve their communication skills. There is a growing need for school-based speech-language pathologists and it is one of the fastest-growing professions because it is in high demand.
Employers of speech-language pathologists include: schools, universitie, hospitals, offices, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and hearing centers. There are also competitive salaries, favorable schedules, and ongoing professional development. A Master's degree is required to enter the field. One half of speech pathologists work in schools while the other half are employed in healthcare institutions.
One thing about this profession that is important is considering that it values and ctively recruits dedicated individuals, including those with diverse backgrounds and experiences. I am thinking that the qualifications are most important in finding and maintaining a job as a speech pathologist but it also requires patience because results and progress take time. Also, an understanding of cross cultural communication is needed as well.

Ecological Lifestyle
I started the challenge on November 17 at 7:55 p.m. and now it is 8 p.m. on November 18. My first ecological footprint said I would require 3.6 Earths for my lifestyle, 16.1 global acres, and 15.6 tons of Carbon Dioxide. After the 24 hours, my score was reduced to 3.3 Earths, 14.7 global acres, and 15 tons of carbon dioxide. Apparently I spent less energy on food but more energy on everything else in percentage. To reduce my carbon footprint I used less water in the shower and decided and ate less packed foods. I also unplugged my radio since I do not use it much. I believe I could turn off the light when I am not necesssarily using it, and make sure I do not fall asleep with the TV on. To be completely honest the only difference it would make between my current footprint and a reduced one would be the electricity bill is less. Which is a good thing and would save me some money so I guess it is more cost effective to live with a reduced carbon footprint.

No technology blogpost
When I had to go without the internet and cell phone at school it really had no effect on me because that is just a typical day for me. Although I had to find new ways to occupy my time in between classes so I sat on a bench outside of Beta Hall and read a book. But I could not concentrate because of the squirrels. One even had the audacity to come on my bench and stare at me. So I looked back at the squirrel and shook my head and I guess the squirrel got me because it moved away. And I saw one with an acorn and it buried the acorn in the ground and I finally figured out what squirrels are doing when their heads are in the ground. Anyway, I started to observe people then that became boring so I just sat there doing nothing. I wasn't bored though because I was thinking about eggnog. Anyway, I know that is not very profound but the real challenge for me did not come along until I had to go home and was not able to watch TV. That is when I realized how much I valued the company of other people because it is not as lonely as sitting in a room by myself everyday. But of course I never realized that because the TV always provides entertainment and I don't feel lonely when I am watching it. I didn't see the world any differently except maybe realize how lonely I am here without my family and friends in Fort Lauderdale. So if this assignment has done anything for me, it has made me realize how lonely I am without television.
I did it!
Not only did I go 24 hours without techno gadgets, I did an extra two hours so I finished at 1pm on Friday, November 7th. This is the first time I have been the computer since the challenge so I went 3 or 4 days without that. My cell phone is only is service one week out of the month because it is prepaid and once I put money in my account and service my phone, the minutes are used up in one week. So going without my phone was easy. I only use it check the time anyway and I only checked the time once during the 24 hours because I had no idea what time it was when I woke up on Friday morning and my phone is the only accurate time I had access to at the time. The hardest part was going without the TV for 24 hours. I am usually alone when I am at my apartment. Nobody visits me and nobody is able to call me since my phone is rarely in service so TV is like my only companion when I am at the apartment. So I read for entertainment on Thursday. I finished reading a book and started another one that night and I fell asleep with the book in my hand. I wanted to listen to the radio because it was so quiet but I could not so I just fell asleep at a time I am not even sure of.

One Problem
As the election has recently come to a close and the nation moves on to a new change in the country there are some issues that must be addressed. One particular issue that is troubling Americans right now is the economy. It seems that day by day people are losing both their jobs and their houses at an alarming rate. Foreclosures and businesses shutting down causing even more people to lose their jobs seems like a daily occurance now. As I do not have a career yet since I am working on my college degree, how will this problem affect the prospects of people who will graduate from college and be looking for jobs within the next few years?
The job market is already so competitive now it does not even seem like a college degree will be enough in the future. If this is the case, it worries me that going to college will not be enough. Population increase and money inflation is also affecting the job market. More people means more competition and inflation means pay cuts or job cuts. This troubles me because it makes me afraid that I will not be able to take care of my family or myself in the future. The main point of going to college is not only getting a degree but obtaining a job in the future that may allow better oppotunities for one's future.
Along with the job losses is the foreclosure. People are losing thier houses and other people buy those foreclosed houses at a cheaper price. Where will these people go? They probably could not keep up with the payments because they lost their jobs or had to take a pay cut. When this happens to people so often now it makes me wonder about my own family. My mother works two jobs to take care of me and my three sisters and nephew and now she has to pay off the mortgage and the loans my father took out on the house. I want to help her so much which is why I need to be able to find a career with my degree. My mother did not go to college for her Bachelor's and now I feel like with the opportunity I have, I need to get a job for me and my family so we do not lose our house.
Taxes can also be a burden to people who do not make a lot of money. All of that money eventually adds up and it can sure hurt a wallet. The economy needs a boost which is why people need to learn to work together. It may seem unfair to charge higher taxes to someone who makes more money than the average citizen, but if we do not help each other out, how will things be able to change? Right now, it seems that the only people who are complaining about being charged more for taxes are the same people who never have to worry about their electricity being cut off or losing a job. But if one sees a person who is thirsty and cannot get thier own, would it not be right to give that person a drink, even if it comes out of that person's own pocket?
From what this nation has seen from the beginning of war in 2003 to now, it seems like things have been hard. Surely we as citizens can do something about this economic problem. Until things get better we must learn how to survive through the worst. We can be more nieghborly toward one another by helping each other out. We can save money on gas by taking the bus. We have alternatives and we have options. But more importantly, we have each other. So for now and for the next few years we must learn to live by these words: United we stand, Divided we fall.
